Just started process in Westchester

Recommended Posts

If you are talking West Chester, OH, I was banded April 10th and have until friday to start incorporating some solid food. Can't wait! If you are self-pay, everything will probably happen pretty quick. It took less than 1 month from the time of my initial consult to surgery. Where ever you go, the best of luck to you!

I used to live in White Plains but now I'm in Michigan. What kind of insurance do you have? I have Empire Blue still and it was a breeze. I'm not even two weeks out from surgery and I'm down 12-13 pounds and feeling great.

Yes, I too have Empire Blue. I had my initial consult on 3/27 and have a surgery date for 5/14. I hear that's great, many people have to wait at least 6 months for approval...THANK GOD I DIDN'T!

Oh wow, I'm so glad you posted. I'm not in Westchester but our insurance is Empire Blue. I called them twice to see if there were any requirements for surgery and they just told me that it had to be medically necessary (ie, morbidly obese). I had my first appt with the surgeon on Tuesday and he thought that they might require a 6-month pre-op diet. It sounds like that's not the case? Any info on Empire Blue would be very helpful!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
