ONLY RNYer at LBT??

Recommended Posts

I had my RNY surgery on May 27. I am still pretty bloated but have lost about 5 lbs since the surgery. I am looking forward to some RESULTS, that's for sure.

I feel like a complete wimp but I was SHOCKED :crying: by how much it hurt and by how bruised I am. My stomach is completely black - not lightly bruised, seriously BLACK. it's really the weirdest thing I've seen on my body so far! And I feel better and better every day but for a few days there, man I was wiped out!

But as I said, it has not yet been a week and I'm sure the best days are all ahead of me . . .

Good luck to you on your journey!

cheers,

Deb

Wow, I sound like a debbie downer - I'm so excited about mine really I am. I was just noticing a few things . . .

Deb,

I hope things get better for you soon. My daughter had her RNY a year ago and I was there right along with her through the whole thing and it can be rough. I won't be able to compare the two surgeries (lap band and RNY) until next week but I'm preparing myself for more pain and a recovery that maybe a bit longer. Anyway keep me/us posted on how you're doing. Take care Nancy.

I had RNY on the 27th as well. Its amazing how different everyone's surgeries and recovery are.

I have one incision that's bruised. The rest are fine. I'm not bloated at all (even after 5+ bags of fluid) and I'm down 9lbs.

Now let me tell you, head hunger is killer! Ugh..

You're probably one of the maybe 5? Bypassers on here, mainly because this is a lapband website lol. Either way congratulations. I think it takes a very secure person to choose the bypass so I hope everything goes well with you =)

Thanks Sara, I just need more help than the lap band gives, mainly the malabsorption. I wish it would have worked with just the lap band but I just was one of the unlucky ones. Good luck to you also, Nancy.

I'm not all that sure it has much to do with being "secure".

For some people, MANY, in fact, it is what they NEED.

The various Weight Loss Surgeries are not entirely interchangeable. Some people need restriction. Some people need malabsorbtion. Some people need neither, but THINK they do. For Some people, there is NO WLS that will work.

It is about choosing what is right for YOU, and I'm not talking entirely about ones "comfort zone".

People really, really need to do their research before choosing ANY form of WLS, and I don't think they always do that.

HH

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
