First "stuck" food - still hurts this a.m.

Recommended Posts

Hi all - today is my one-month anniversary and so far this has been eral easy for me. I have been able to eat anything with no PB, no sliming. Anytime I get that gas pian in my back, walking cures it right up. Last night, however, I had my first real experience with a stuck food (I think.) I tried a piece of pizza, but it wasn't really thin crust. About 15 minutes after eating it, I got that pain in my back that usually indicates full/gas. I did all my usual stuff...walking, Gas X strips. Some relief, but not all/. Today I woke up and the pain is still there....not sure if it is just sore, but it feels like a gas bubble I can't dislodge. I had soft food and liquid this a.m., but it is still there. Any advice on what it might be? Has anyone else experienced this? And please, no haters on the pizza...I've had a good run to date, but learned my lesson and won't do that again.

"Stuck" feels exactly like you'd think. It's like there's something in your esophagus that won't move. What you described sounds very much like trapped gas. Keep moving and put a heating pad on the area.

It sounds to me like it could be either stuck food or trapped gas from the description. I have gotten stuck before and still been sore the next day. When I am still sore, I just stick to warm liquids until I feel better again. You will probably be just fine by tomorrow if you don't eat anything very substantial today. If you continue to eat as usual after still being uncomfortable from yesterday, it seems to extend the time it takes to get to feeling normal again.

I know you mentioned no haters on the pizza, but I just wanted to mention that I have been there, done that, and now know I am overly sensitive to Pizza Crust. pizza crust, if it is not thin, can make me horribly uncomfortable for a very long time. It also builds up in that I can feel OK while I am eating it, but then 5 minutes later I am getting tight until I am horribly uncomfortable. Now I avoid it more out of fear to repeat previous mistakes.

If you are going to eat pizza in the future, you might want to make sure it is thin crust or just eat the toppings.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
