tricare Europe(germany) lapband

Recommended Posts

Hi, I got the referral from my dr and have to take it to tricare so I can do the initial appt with the surgeon. Wondering if anyone one here has gone to Frankfurt or Mannheim for their lapband. tell me your experience with Tricare. What documentation do you need for approval. do you need proof of weight loss attempts? etc...my BMI is 43, I have high BP, prediabetes and slightly elevated cholesterol plus a HUGE family history of heart disease. thanks in advance

Hi.....and all the way from Germany wow! I do not know how things are done where you are but I had to show that I had tried weight loss programs with no lasting results and that my health was at risk if the weight did not come off, which to me is a no brainer lol....

Hopefully someone who is closer to you can help you with your questions if things are done differently over there

GOOD LUCK!!!

I am not sure how things are done in Germany but Tricare should all be the same. We also have tricare and I am going through the process now. I have all my testing done and now I am just waiting until June 6th. I have to be smoke free for 2 months before I can see the surgeon. That was the surgeons policy not Tricare. I am pretty sure it isn't much different over there as it is here. You can always call Tricare and ask them. Sorry I probably wan't much help... Jennifer

Lapband surgery is covered by tricare in Germany. You have to go thru your local clinic, get your approvals and they will send you to a surgeon in your area.

As in the States, the docs here are all different in their ideas of what is necessary to be banded. It's always a case by case, doc by doc thing, no matter where you go, but the general ideas are the same... history of failed wight loss, co-morbidities, etc.

Good luck! Let us know how you make out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
