Back in the Hospital...

Recommended Posts

Officially home! I just loved the hospital that much, so I went back for a little visit LOL. It will just take the ribs a few weeks to heal up. Thanks for everyone's support. ((hugs)) to all! -BG

Thin- I told the kids I had a hiatal hernia. I was (almost) hoping they'd find one in there (that's how bad I hate lying). My kids are older so they've heard about hernias before and they thought it was 'no big deal'. I'm SO SO SO glad I didn't tell anyone else anything...after re-landing in the hospital my MIL and FIL (nurse and Dr.) would have forced us to cancel the graduation party (I have NO doubt, none, they're like that). They are going wonder why I'm catering for the first time LOL.

Wish me luck hiding all the 'tracks' on my hands (I can wear a long sleeve shirt for the arms), they're black and blue with needle marks everywhere (they took a lot of blood and 'missed' a few times). I look like a junkie...I'm thinking foundation and a few band aids.

I was allowed to take off my bandages and steri strips today. The tiniest incision (just below my L breast and a little toward the center) is by far the most knarley (sp?) and is really bruised up...it's right ontop of my last rib, so now the rib problem is making more sense. I just don't get why it would take 4 days to have problems? Oh well.

Hi BG! I haven't been on here for a few days, so have just read this thread. Sorry to hear about your experiences, but SO glad you're home again. Take care!

X

P.S I didn't thank you for your lovely messages before my surgery. I wrote a huge reply and then it disappeared into cyberspace. I was just home from hospital and v. tired, so I thought I'd get round to writing again later. I went back to work yesterday, so the time just never came! Sorry about that. And thank-you!

Hey BG, glad to hear everything is OK, welcome home and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! hopefully everything is smooth sailing from here on out. I felt completely normal at 2 weeks. and all my (3) small scars are barely noticeable except for the larger port one, it looked like a pizza cutter was used!! lol it is looking better, but not like the others...

glad they didnt find anything too serious!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
