can you feel your port?

Recommended Posts

Hello my name is Stephanie I had my band put in on April 6th,2009, and i was wondering if anyone can feel their port if you touch your stomach? I am only 3weeks out so i know that there is still some swelling, i know this because i still have a little brusing! I can feel my port when i touch my stomach! is this normal? will it go away? will i look like i have a lump in my belly 4eva? i know this is pre-mature worrying...but i can't help it!

i have been able to feel mine all along also.

I also stayed bruised for almost 6 weeks! it was so terrible looking!

I'm going to get mine lowered when i get to goal and have a Tummy Tuck because it will definitely show if i wore a swimsuit or even if my shirt came up just a bit, and if it pokes out more than now, it will be obvious what it is!

When I first had my surgery, I couldn't find my port to save my own life.

These days, however, I can feel it; I remember the first time I could that I thought something was wrong until I realized, "That's my port!"

I had port replacement 6 months ago and now have the low profile small port. I can still feel it though if i press on the area. I do not think it will get to the point where it protrudes.

I can feel mine and have been able to since banding. It doesn't bother me at all, though.

I would have to make my stomach muscles tight to feel the port at the begining of my journey. NOW. I can really feel it.. In fact it hurts me sometimes if I lean up against the counter or something... and am not careful. 15 months out

HA! Bet it does. Think of a turkey timer. When the red poky thing sticks out the turkey is done. When your port sticks out you are done losing! ;o)

That is one thing I did not like about being banded. I didn't like the port sticking out. I couldn't wear spandex shirts because you could see my port sticking out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
