I'd be happy to tutor this charming young woman in the nuances of speech. Nothing creepy about that, is there?

How many times have you spoken before an audience? Speaking before people takes a lot of practice, it is not something you acquire overnight or from just one class. Nervousness is the number one killer of speeches, you have to learn to control it, and when you do, you will do pretty good.

plain: "Unlike BJean, I think Prejean was right to state her opinion."

I don't really think she was wrong to state her opinion. What I said is that if she wanted the crown, she needed to be politically correct. She should have known the game by now. She should have wanted the crown if she was going to go to all that trouble. She probably knew that a question like that was going to be asked and that it might be asked of her. She either thought about it and decided that stating her opinion was more important than the crown, or she was just plain dumb.

I don't think you all really read my posts. I think you probably scan them and come up with what you think I mean. I can't say as I blame you. I tend to do that with long posts too - either that or I ignore them altogether.

Or were you just trying, once again, to get me to sound off plain? I know how much you enjoy reading my pearls of wisdom. :crying:

trell, I'm not sure that public speaking and beauty pagents go hand in hand.

Public speaking is difficult and an acquired art. Most of the focus in beauty pagents is beauty. Hence the fake hair, boobs, tans, etc. But the one who is crowned is expected to be able to not embarrass herself or her sponsors. Doesn't look like Prejean was up for that.

I think my beliefs are more important than a competition. If she chose to do that, then kudos to her for standing up for what she believes in. Winning is not everything.

back to topic of ms idiot - YEAH family values chick; work it; - ya think they'll send to her to a speech class here soon??

and NO i'm not knocking her stance one bit - just the fact she's an idiot and her parents should maybe sent her to a school that taugh english / grammer.... oh but she would have had to left the house to do that...

yes - humor is great~!

Yes, but when one is 21 years old and only being voted on for how pretty they are and how hot they are in a bikini, do you really expect Rhodes Scholars? :crying:

As for the other, sorry, I was trying to distinguish what you were saying, and I thought it was something different.

Add to that the fact that you don't know what you're going to be asked, and that ups the ante.

Did any of these women sound like a Mensa member in their speeches? Or is she the only one under the microscope?

Yes, but two things here: I haven't heard her slamming the fact that she didn't win the crown. ALL the focus has been on her answer. I do recall her saying that it was more important to her to stick to her beliefs, and that she did.

As for being PC, why? There are already those here who have slammed others for being PC and stating feelings that are opposed to how they really believe.

I started public speaking, and doing speeches at a young age, and I will be 40 in a year, and I am still nervous when I first stand up before people. After a minute or so, I get control over the nervousness. She is young, she will grasp it eventually.

LOL!

Okay, is she a great speaker? No. However, she was immediately hit with a very hard question by a very out-of-the-closet gay guy. Who would sound like a brainiac? And since then, the only things I've heard her speaking about had to do with the same issue and some emotional speaking about the villianization she was put through.

The winner is Kristen Dalton from NC. Tell me she sounds better. They sound about the same to me.

How many other contestants had their breast implants paid for? Maybe she did it just for the implants and said whatever people told her to say. If she prepped that much on her body I'm sure they prepped on what to say too!:crying:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
