One Week Post-Op Update - and question

Recommended Posts

Ok - so my weight prior to the pre-op diet was 359, Op-day I was 347, and today after one week I weighed in at 332. So 15lbs in first week, 27lbs total....Needless to say, I am very happy! Not too hungry, but I start on mushies today, so I am def. looking forward to that. I think the key to this is chew chew chew - as if you chew enough, everything becomes soft and mushie, right??....

So my question for you band veterans out there is this: Can you eventually eat basically anything you want eventually? I mean, obviously this is a lifestyle change, I understand that, but gosh.... some buffalo wings and blue cheese sure would taste good again one day...

Thanks and thanks to this forum!!

Steve

I think you will find the responses as varied as the people on this board. Some will eat anything they want, some will focus on slider foods, some say no carbs, and some say no sugar.

For me, telling me I can never have something was NEVER going to work. Its going only to make me want it more - not sure that would work with Brussels Sprouts but you get the point.

Thankfully my DR is of the go slow with adjustments and changes your eating habits which I did. 95% of the time I eat well balanced meals but sometimes I eat junk!

Now I find some wings can be really over cooked - which makes them dry, which in turns makes them a little hard for me to eat. So I switched to boneless wings - same taste, no dryness and I use less napkins - so its my contribution to the green movement.

I think it will depend on your level of restriction as to what types of things you will be able to tolerate. I still haven't attempted bread after 7 months cuz I'm afraid to. I have eaten small amounts of Pasta a few times but mostly I don't even try the things my doctor said to stay away from. You should be able to eat MOST regular things down the line if you take small bites and chew very well, but for myself I have eliminated fried things, really fattening things, rice, and bread. I think you will find that as you lose weight and have good restriction that you won't crave the fattening things so much. A healthier way of eating will become normal....at least it did for me. Best of luck to you!
