Feels like i have something stuck in my throat!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I got my band put in a week ago today and everything had been goin fine, but late afternoon yesterday i started feeling like i have something big stuck in my throat and it has gradually gotten worse and worse and i still feel like it today. I cant think what it could be that has caused me to block up (had half a weetabix with loads of milk for brekkie, a scrambled egg for dinner and some complan for tea) which was recommended by my dietician, and i havent ate anything today cos im scared it might cause me to vomit i feel that blocked up, just drinking lots of Water which isnt helping and is just making me burp a lot.

Has anyone else experienced this, or is it normal, and if so, how can i get rid of it!!!

Also just out of curiosity, Ive been reading up on this website and it mentions pb'ing??!! What does this mean!!??

Thanks for any help

If I were you I would go back to liquids for a day or so until things settle down. Your insides are still healing, most people are still on liquids at a week post surgery (Some surgeons ask you to stay on them for up to a month). Sounds like you had a bit much food too soon.

When a bandster eats too much or too fast most of us get a golf ball feeling high in the chest or at the bottom of the throat. If I eat too much, this along with burping is my sign to stop or I will PB. A PB is a productive burp, this means food that is above the band, plus saliva are brought back up. It differs from actual vomit as it hasn't mised with stomach juices.

Hope that helps a little, welcome to another Uk bandster.

I agree with Sue, I was on liquids for 2 weeks post-op then went onto the things you have had after that, and I struggled. You will still very swollen inside, 7mths on I still find Weetabix quite heavy.

Best thing to do though is speak to your Nurse, they will put your mind at rest x

I agree too, 6 months on and I remember this feeling only too well. I took to baby foods for a few days and fluids and of course there is always slim fast as a very last resort. Let us know how you go on Vicky. PB is a productive burp, you'll soon know if you get one!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
