BCBS is very good at approval. 6 months of seeing the dr. once a month to monitor weight loss, and then you are home free. I did not even loose that much weight in the six months. I'm approved and will get banded May 14th. Really, just relax, you'll get approved.

We didn't have to do the six month diet thing with the dr...ours is based on medically necessary and a BMI over 35 with comorbities or just above 40 and mine is 55 so I am hoping this will get me through the approval process. But you know these insurance companies, they are unpredictible.

Thanks for the info and I will keep positive thoughts:thumbup:

I just wanted to let you know that I live in Glendale and am being banded on May 7th.. I have BCBS and they are great - I was approved in a week and I have a BMI of 39 and no co-morbidities.. I was soo nervous, but they approved me..

And Scottsdale Bariatric is great, they are on top of everything and have the nicest staff! I am having Dr Blackstone do my band, but Dr Sprunger is very nice too!

I wish you all the best, and try not to worry too much... I did and I shouldnt have :smile2: Although sometimes you cant help it lol

Message me if you have any more questions and you guys are pretty close to me if you live in Anthem

I have BCBS too. and when i called to check on the coverage they said that you just have to be over 35 bmi and have been overweight for 2 years. and thats all they told me. they said that the doctor might have extra requirements and i'm really hoping i get approved i'm like on the bottom of the weight scale, (BMI 39) but i do have PCOS and sleep apnea. i'm just sooo nervous!

My paperwork was submitted on 4-23, I called bcbs yesterday (5-1) and I was told it was with the nurse to go over and I should know by 5-8 at the latest... I am hoping to get my band on when approved by 6-8 which is my 44th b-day. I think that will be a great present for myself!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
