1 wk and starting mushies

Recommended Posts

I beginning to wonder if I made the right decision to get banded... Im starving!!!! I made it throught the 1st wk on liquids. Now I'm on pureed food and only allowed 3Tablespoons at each meal and its supposed to take 30 min to eat. I dont get it. I'm so hungry, and I cant find a protien powder that tastes good. Also supposed to have 20 gr. Protein for BLD. what am I doing wrong? I feel no restriction and I feel like I can eat a ton of food. All I think about is food all day!!!!

The only Protein Shake I really like is Slim Fast LOW CARB in chocolate. This has 20 grams of Protein per can and only 2 grams of carbs. And, it's ready-to-drink so it's not gritty or gross that way. I had to brave the whey protein shake powder before surgery but after, this is just fine! Just don't buy the "High Protein" version -- it has only 15 grams of protein. I didn't have any restrictions on how much mushy food I ate at a meal. Soft scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, that sort of thing. But remember, you aren't SUPPOSED to have any restriction yet. You haven't even had your first fill, and it takes several to reach your sweet spot. You're in bandster hell and it sucks. We've all been there. Other things are sugar free yogurt, cottage cheese (very high in protein), cream Soups like Tomato, some of that stuff is less than mushy food and should help to fill in the times between your meals.

your dr or nutrionist should have provided you with a list of foods/drinks for the healing stages.....i've not heard of only 3 tblsp of food in one sitting - but if that's your dr's plan..??,

there are some Protein drinks that are halfway decent & filling while along the way:

* muscle milk (light), i like chocolat & chocolate malt

* Syntrax nectar, i like fuzzy navel / orange / - i like to mix them w/frozen fruit to make a smoothie vs all the choc/vanilla shakes which can get boring

* champion banana scream

many of these offer samples at Vitamin shoppes so you don't have to make a huge investment in a large tub that you'll never use.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
