Swelling or Stuck...Confused

Recommended Posts

I am 3wks post-op i've been doing great so far...Yesterday I was at work with no lunch, which was bad on my part. I bought a salad from our cafe, I figured i'll chew it well...It had a whole assortment of things on it..Bacon,tomatoes,feta cheese, corn so I thought I'd pick more on the smaller things than the actually lettuce. Well, I ate and im trying to control my eatting habits because I do eat fast...And yesterday I do believe i ate fast...After i was finish I had this sense of omg im sooooo full, but that lasted for hoursssssssssss....I was uncomfortable because of the mere fact it wasn't going away. I was walking around, nothing! Finally after a few hours i started sipping on Water because i was thirsty, and the feeling of fullness would come back.

I am scared because my doc told me i can add solids but to be careful, and im scared I may have done something bad.... I am up this morning feeling ok, but the anxiety isn't helping :) Any advice would be greatly appreciated....

I think you just ate too much. I know it doesn’t seem like it should be so, but what you are explaining is how I feel if I eat too much. You see the food we eat takes a much longer time to pass through the band, so when you drank later after eating it is likely all of your food had not passed through yet so the liquids you drank just filled you back up. Try to eat smaller portions and slower as this will allow you brain to register when you are full.

If you ate ahead of your post op plan you should call your doc. You may have messed the band placement up a little. Call to be safe, especially before the weekend.

What "Solids" can you add? Most say soft foods first...

I'd still call the doc to be sure!

You did nothing wrong so don't worry. At only 3 wks post op ur definitely still healing, especially on the inside. The area around your band is still swollen. This will give you natural restriction for the next few weeks as the swelling goes down. Enjoy it while it last! :-)

But you are discovering that solid foods will fill you up fast and keep you full for longer. Whereas your Protein shakes and mushy foods can slide thru the band rather quickly, solid foods will sit on top of the band and take hours to digest. This is the beauty of how you will lose weight. The tougher the food, the longer you should be chewing. The more you chew, the more solid foods you will be able to get down at one time and the less likely you'll get anything stuck. (try to go for 20-30 sec depending on texture)

Oh, and since you can only get down a few ounces at a time, you should still be doing a few liquid/mushies to get in needed Protein and nutrients. Happy losing! :-)

salad is an iffy thing for alot of bandsters, let alone at 3 weeks post op. Im sure you are fine but i would not try and eat salad again for a few more weeks. Salad greens and the things that are usually accompanying them really make your stomach work hard at digestion. Give yourself and your band a lil more healing time before doing the hard core veggies.

Thanks for the advise guys!!! I ended calling the doc because I was a little scared...He said I can start eating solids like chicken and stuff, but to take it easy...And if I have anymore problems to let him know...But I think I am doing ok!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
