I lived in New England for a while and it was always "WARSHER" ... tell me where there is an "R" in Washer?

Our family is from TX but being in the military my kids have lived all over and my accent is only slight, mostly comes out when I'm angry or upset....

My MIL is a classic "warsh" user. This is one of my daughter's pet peeves, esp when we lived in WASHINGTON state (no R) and she asked her grandma how exactly do you "warsh" clothes and grandma replied "in the warshing machine! AGH!

There are some I have given up on...they irk me, but I seem to be the only individual whose ears are assaulted by these, and sadly, common (im)proper use has made these terms 'acceptable'.

The day of the week 'Tuesday' is NOT Tooz-day, it is Tues-day. The u is included in the pronunciation, and the s is soft. If ever I were to meet you, you would be able to identify me quickly - by asking me to state the days of the week...I will be the person pronouncing it T-you-s-day.

The use (misuse) of the word 'hard'. A diamond is hard. A cement wall is hard. Living the life of a bandster may be DIFFICULT. Solving an algebraic problem may be DIFFICULT.

Yep. Straight up Beverly Hillbillies. But I still say "seament" like Jethro did.

I'm sure I will spend too much money trying to feed you two. I have to eat too.

I have to admit that the last two to's(?) have always confused me on the proper use of them.

Hopefully this isn't too far off the theme of this thread, but my pet peeve is the number 8 on gas station price signs.

I managed stations for years. Usually your in a hurry trying to get the prices changed so you don't pay attention to the way the number 8 is put up.

Now for a few of my pet peeves with the English language.

1) double negatives......"I aint got no" "I don't not do that"

2) not finishing your words out......"I'm going to the how" instead of "I'm going to the house."

3) don't know what to call this...."I teached myself" instead of "I taught myself"

At 1 time I had great English. I used to make A's and B's in Language. My spelling was great. But lately my spelling and English have been becoming atrocious. :angry:Thank God for spell check!

I have to admit that the last two to's(?) have always confused me on the proper use of them.

I remember asking my mom about that when I was young.

"Too" often means "also," as in, "I like that too." However, it can also be an adverb, as in, "I like cake too much."

"To" is a preposition, as in, "I will go to the store."

Sorry for the English lesson, but it helped me when I was young to understand all the to/too/two mess.

my husbands family (extended as well) call me lisa. i'm like can't they get it it 4 letters or two: lulu or lu????

he's like no they call you lisa from green acres, i had no idea what that was.

so i had to google green acres & watch youtube clips to get that they are making fun of me being from NY, now running a small ranch......hubby's nickname is "oliver"....

Spell check doesn't help. It doesn't check grammar and it normally gives the US spelling of the word, which is fine if you are from the US but if you're from the UK it means that words that are spelt correctly it says are wrong!

e.g. US = program, UK = programme

I get corrected by my better half far too often for misuse of "well" and "good".

Me - "I did good on my diet today honey!"

Her - "No, you did well on your diet today you mOron".

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
