How serious is this?

Recommended Posts

Last night, I got stuck. The pain lasted for about 7 hours and I pb'd at least 10 times. This morning I felt ok, but could just barely sip Water slowly. Then I foolishly tried a little thin potato Soup for lunch, and the pbing started all over again. Now everything is calm and I am back to Clear liquids, ever-so-slowly. I've been banded a year and I never before had any problem with water. I will call my doctor if this gets any worse, or lasts more than 48 hours, but I'm trying to figure out if I'm just swollen from the bad stick or if this could be something worse, like a slip?

ya know...that happened to me not too long ago where i was stuck for hours and then i thought everything was fine. i drank a coffee and then all of a sudden i was in the bathroom again...soo wierd. i couldnt eat anything else until the next day and then it was better. my throat always feels all swollen though so im thinking your throat is all irritated and swollen in there. just try to drink lots of cold fluids to help the swelling and yes if it doesnt go away then call your dr. good luck!

Cindy:

If you're having pain as well as having problems swallowing still you should call your doctor. Make sure that you don't get dehydrated. I've had a stick before and had to go back to all liquids, then start mushies, then solids. My doctor tells us to call if we ever have pain because your stomach shouldn't have pain when you are banded. They'd rather have you call than put yourself at risk for bigger complications.

Let us know how you make out.

Take care.

Sue

Thanks for the replies. I'm not having any pain. I do make a weird gurgly sound when I'm drinking. I sound just like a very slow bathtub drain. I think I'm going to call my doc today, anyway. I'll drive myself crazy through the weekend if I'm not sure I'm ok.

I am having gastric noises all the time, other people can hear it also. Does anyone have this problem. It actually wakes me up sometimes.

hahahah

I'll be sitting in church, everything so quiet then ---- the noise starts. I don't know if it's coming from my throat or what!

I just wanted to let you know that I'm doing ok. The swelling has gone down some and I did liquids yesterday without a problem. In fact, the weird sound is gone, too. Today, I'm going to stick to mushies, but I think I'll be fine.

Thanks again,

Cindy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
