2 Questions: 3 Weeks Out

Recommended Posts

I have a couple of questions first one is I was wondering if it's normal that my first week (after surgery) I lost weight but I have not lost anything since, I have been going back and forth up and down 2-3 pounds. I can't figure out why the up and down and have not lost anymore. My other question is (I know it's still early-too soon) because I am just starting my "soft" food stage but I was just wondering when everyone started salad. Thanks inadvance

You don't start salad until you're in the last stage of the program. Even now after four months (3 fills) I have to chop my salad very small before eating it.

I was not allowed salad until after 6 weeks, which would be normal eating program. However to this day I do not eat alot of lettuce, I just can't seem to chew it enough.

Yes it's normal to not lose any more weight after the first week or two. Some don't lose ANYTHING more until they start getting restriction from fills, so don't get your hopes too high right now. Mushies stage and higher you are adding calories back in. You have no restriction, so will still be hungry alot. The next month is going to be rough probably, but it is worth it in the end. I'm a slow loser, but haven't gained any!!! That's how I see it!

Hello and welcome to BANDSTER HELL, I'll be your fellow tortured soul....

don't think you are screwing up because of the yo-yo numbers on the scale. Until you start having fills and actually getting some restriction it's normal to toy with those same few pounds over and over I'm 4wks post op today....eating solid foods but haven't been brave enough to try salad yet...and don't know when I will.

Just try to remember you are still healing so don't be too hard on yourself.

Hello,

I am still on the softfood stage. Although, I have added a few solids when I want them. I do want salad. So, hopefully Wednesday my Dr tells me I can try other things. How bad is it not to eat softfoods until told otherwise.

And, can someone tell me how to get the weightloss ticker. I cannot figure it out for the life of me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
