Banded on April 16

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I was banded last Tuesday, the 16th of April. I had only minor complications, which I was very thankful for. So far I have lost a whopping 20 lbs!!! I know this will slow down once the purees and mush start next week.

Does anyone have any advice on how to make it through this next week with just liquids? I get major stomach growling and feel pretty weak.

Thanks,

Lara

Hi langx3,

I was also banded on 16 April in Omaha NE. I have one more week of liquids too, before I can start the purees. There was a few days in there when i felt week too, but as Stephanie1972 said you need to step up the protien. I drink American whey (from GNC) double dutch chocolate in the morning mix with skim milk. You can also mix it with Water, but I prefer to do milk to make sure I get that extra protien. I also take Isopure the bottle has 40 grams of protien so I split it for lunch and dinner. It has helped me, plus I'm taking Vitamins. When ever I get that stomach growl I turn to milk. If your not a milk drinker then try a little more of your protien drink.

Hi there to all of you banded on April 16

Congrats on your surgeries.

There's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time. It's a wonderful place for support. You should find some people other people like Stephanie who will be able to let you know how they got through the liquid phase.

Also, you're all included on the list of April bandsters HERE.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
