Food hasn't gotten stuck. Anyone else?

Is there anyone who has never had food get stuck, or pb'd?

I have been very lucky so far, and have not experienced either. I'm going for my second fill tomorrow, and am just a little nervous about it happening because I might be too tight. Worrying before it actually happens is ridiculous, I know, but there it is.

well really it's not to bad. i would rather PB then have something stuck (it's so uncomfortable) but most the time they both happen simotanously. But it's a small price to pay for the weight loss!!! gotta look at that glass half full :rolleyes2:

the best advice i could tell ya would be to eat SMALL bites and CHEW CHEW CHEW that food!!!!

I never had a problem until after my second fill, but the prior advice is correct.......small bites and chew, chew, chew. Also, you will learn fast what foods you personally need to avoid. Good luck with your second fill!!

I was very fortunate to never have experienced the dreaded PB till i was banded well over a year and a half. To this day i have only had it happend a handfull of times. Each time it was due to letting myself get overly hungry then taking to big of bites in rapid succession. So if i could offer one piece of advice it would be to eat slowwwwwwwwww and if u feel your bite was to big, chew it to death and dont swallow it all at once.

KelinTx got it...I've only gotten stuck (and 1 PB) when I waited too long to eat and then ate too fast (and when I PB'd, I didn't chew my food too well, either). You have 2cc in a 10cc band...next fill is pretty unlikely to take you to too full. Drink the glass of Water they ask you to drink before you leave the office and if you have no problems, you should be fine.

I just got my lap band yesterday . It was not a good experience. I woke up up in excruciating pain they went back in to check everything and it was fine. The second time I woke up the pain was bearable however It seems that every-time I drink Water or eat some Jello i have to take an extra swallow to make it go done am I crazy? It hurts to swallow anything from water to broth not in throat area right between my chest.

Thank you, everyone.

When I saw my doctor yesterday, he asked how I was doing. I told him I was eating every three hours, because that's when I get hungry. Sometimes it's four. He asked if I was eating small amounts. I said yes. I've lost eight pounds since my first fill.

He said he was hesitant to give me another fill because I seemed to be doing well. My weight loss is good, he said, and added that if anything changed, if I started getting hungrier, eating more than I am now, to come in and he would give me a little fill.

I have to say that I'm not disappointed. He didn't want me to have any problems and neither do I. If anything changes, I'll definitely go in before my next scheduled appointment, but I'll just wait and see how I do.

Mgiusti, I'm sorry that you're having a hard time right now. I can't offer any advice, but maybe someone who can will respond. You might want to call your doctor Monday, or if there's an emergency number to contact someone over the weekend that might be an option as well.

Like KelinTx I made it through more than a year and since then I can remember every pb, so there hasnt been more than seven or eight in the two and half years since my first one.

As you have been banded longer and suffered a pb or two, you learn to recognise early warning signals and you learn to STOP trying to ignore it and eat. If you must stop, you must stop or the inevitable will occur. I find for me its the timing between bites that matters most, bigger bites cause problems, yes but as long as I dont shove more food down on top, I'm usually fine. Eating slowly is key. Stopping at the first sign of trouble and waiting till it passes is also important.

This can be very difficult becuase if you're eating with others it feels strange to simply stop a bite or two into your meal, but you cant even fill it in with a sip of wine or anything, lol, you simply must wait.

Also, you get better at it. My first pb was an hour long agony of sliming and fighting it, so was my second. Nowadays I think " ooh, that's not right" and quietly go and get rid of it, I dont have to sit and wait through the entire process, it sounds like some sort of eating disorder, I know, but I have the muscle control to simply expel the item, as its not sitting properly in the first place. I cant just randomly barf up that chocolate bar I shouldnt have eaten though, the item has to be stuck and causing slime.

Oh, who would have thought we would enjoy such disgusting discussions, lol?

PB = Productive Burp - when you eat/swallow something too big to go through the stoma so you vomit it right back up intact as it was when it went down.

I was banded 1/20 and had my first PB/slime today...it's the darn calcium citrate that my NUT wants me to take! They are so big and I've had trouble with them before, but not to this extent. Anyone have suggestions for getting the same nutrients in a small pill or chewable? I loved Viactiv, but she says it doesn't have enough of the main things...

I take Flintstone's Complete with Iron 2x day. That doesn't have or not enough calcuim so I take Viactiv 2x day. 2 Viactive = 100% RDA for calcuim.

Three fills and nothing has stuck so far. I'm really really good at chewing until there's nothing left though.

I had about 1/3 cup of Coke the other day--it was from Mexico and made with sugar instead of high fructose corn Syrup, tasted like it did back when I was a kid!!

I was really careful about taking a few sips and waiting to make sure my stomach didn't revolt.

I won't be going back to any carbonated beverage, but it was a nice treat.

I think my very problem has been eating on top of being stuck and ignoring the first signs. That is why the few times it happened it was so severe with the "vomiting". I am learning fast now!!
