Soon to be banded in MI

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

My name is Brittney and I am due to be banded 4/30. I am very nervous, not because of the life altering change or surgery in general, I am nervous because of the crappy and extremely low rated hospital I will have my procedure at.:rolleyes2:

I have started my pre op better Md. diet and whoever conjured up that minestrone Soup needs a new job. The food is the pits.

Anyhow I am continuing to move forward. If anyone has tips for nervousness I would love to hear...

Brittney

Good for you... Its a long journey but the reward will be amazing. I too am going to have lapband done. I have done 3 or the 4 required tests (appts). I hope to have surgery May 28th. Could you let me know your progress after surgery? Thank you Kathy

I too am from michigan and got my band on Feb 26th. Where are you getting your band done. I go through the best program in Grand Rapids, MI. They have the most awesome support group and aftercare. Good luck with the surgery, it is worth it.:rolleyes2:

Hi there Brittney

Welcome and congrats on your date. I was banded in Melbourne, Australia, on the 23rd April and am doing ok (touch wood!). Feeling a lot better now that I can have full fluids (milk, yoghurt, Protein drinks, smoothies, pureed Soups, etc). Can't comment on your hospital in the US however I do wish you a recovery like mine has been so far.

There's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time. It's a wonderful place for support.

Also, you've been added to the list of April bandsters HERE.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
