Losing weight and breaking out?

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 10 of my 2 week pre-op diet which is a low carb plan. Can't say i had a glowling complection before I started, but now? My skin is really breaking out! I'm doing my best with products to prevent it but the products are not helping a bit. Did this happen to anyone else and is there any reason for it? :)

My opinion, as you continue to cut out carbs, your skin will break out less and less. I think it is your system purging itself of yucky stuff, which comes out in your skin. I had the same reaction at the beginning of the hardest south beach phase which is good, low fat Proteins and very few carbs.

Be patient, I bet in about 2 weeks your skin will look better than before. Good luck, and dont pick (I need to take my own advice)!:rolleyes2:

I definitely agree with Melliecat! Your system is merely cleansing itself of all the bad toxins, etc. Nothing to become alarmed about. Don't buy too much "new stuff" just stick to the basics for your own skin. Congrats on your steps thusfar. I had band surgery one week ago today and am so happy with my decision. Of course, I cannot wait for my follow-up appointment on Monday to see what the doc says. My last "meal" (2 eggs for lunch) was in Sunday, April 12th, but I can honestly say I have not been hungry. The Protein nutrient drinks (Carnation Instant Breakfast - No Sugar Added, of course) have satisfied me. Well, hope you all have a great week, if I do not get back before the weekend.

Here's to your desire to be....

Ya know i'm alittle over 3 weeks post-op and I've never had any problems with my skin. And now? I have a pimple the size of a planet on my chin! I hope they are right, and it clears up and no more issues. I dont like it!

Hey there I'm almost 6 months out & down over 60 lbs but my skin too has been bad since surgery,I read somewhere that it is your bodys way of flushing out toxins so make sure you drink tons of Water that will help too!!small price for such a great outcome!!:rolleyes2:

Extra hormones, especially for us women, are stored in your fat cells. As your fat cells shrink, these hormones are released into your body. Can cause acne and skin problems while actively losing weight. Lots and lots of Water is the way to go. I have been on a roller coaster with all kinds of skin problems since my surgery, including a flare of scalp psoriasis, that has been in remission for 8 years, and other cystic acne problems, but not on my face, thank god. Hang in there, hopefully it will get better!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
