What do you use for a Calcium supplement

Are Lap Band patients supposed to be on Citrate or Caltrate? I am trying to go through my packet and see what my surgeon said, but I know there is one in particular he requested.

The nutritionist at my surgeons office said Caltrate D plus for me. They uped my dosage from 2 a day to 3 because I don't drink milk at all.

My nutritionists instructions didn't specify. Their suggestions (Viactiv and Twin Labs calcium citrate wafers) included both. Depending on my mood, I switch off between Caltrate D Plus chewables (the bottle contains 3 flavors - cherry, orange & fruit punch) and either Viactiv or GNC soft chewables, which both come in chocolate and caramel. The nutritionist said it was important not to take the Calcium supplements together, as the body cannot absorb more than 500mg calcium at once, so a higher dose at once would be wasted.

I was told to use calcium citrate, whichever is that. Supposedly, the acid in citrate makes the Calcium more readily absorbed than the carbonate.

I was told yesterday by the nutritionist, to use Calcium carbonate. I don't like calcium chews or wafers. Maybe I'll try the liquid calciium.
