How many times is too many times to call your insurance company????

Recommended Posts

I was told by my patient advocate that they sent in my paperwork to United Health Care on April 16th. I called UHC on Monday the 20th to make sure they received it. They said they received it on the 17th and it was "under review" they said it might be ready today the 22nd. Well I have been calling twice a day, and it is still "under review" I call in the morning and I call in the afternoon. Is that too much??? I just can't stand to wait!!! I just need to know yes or no!!! Of course I am hoping for a yes. I will post as soon as I know something. Send the positive approval vibes my way!!!!:)

I kow it's tough waiting I called UHC a couple times and didn't really get any answers except it was under review until my Dr's office called me and said that they had approval. I saw a lot of post where people said their UHC approval was done in hours or days mine took 3 weeks.

Its only too much if you keep calling after they approve you :)

:P I mean, I wouldn't call them every 5 minutes, but they said it might be ready today - nothing wrong with calling them to find out - and once a day every day till you do get the answer

I say if they know you by voice alone.....or if your call always go directly to voicemail then maybe you called too much.....but I agree if you don't stay on top of it who is going to?

I swear the waiting is one of the hardest parts!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
