how much weight do you lose after a fill?

Recommended Posts

I just had my first fill last Wednesday, 2 cc's in a 10 cc Lapband. The Dr put in 4 cc's and I was too tight so he took out half, much to my dismay, because I wanted good restriction. Since weighing myself last Wednesday and weighing again this morning, I'm down 5 pounds! Pretty good, but I'm really watching what I'm eating, walking 4-5 times a week and holding back at meals. How much do you typically lose after a fill? is it continuous?

As with this whole experience, it depends on the individual. There is no better answer. Good job on losing those 5 lbs. You may experience a slow down in the weight loss but you will eventually come to a steady "average" weight loss. Sounds like you are doing the right things. Keep up the good work and be patient with yourself. You will get there in time.

fills have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW MUCH WEIGHT YOU WILL LOSE....for instance a person that has had 2 fills could be losing way more than a person with 8 fills...ALL A FILL DOES IS RESTRICT THE AMOUNT OF food U CAN EAT...the rest is UP TO U...u should b on ur way to a very successful journey walking and watching ur calories....

I agree with 2FG...No matter how much fill you have, it's not some magic thing. You still have to work at this and each person works at it at different levels. So, you get a fill and maybe it is easier for you to control your eating or resist bad food choices but it still required you to expend an effort.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I didn't state my question clear enough. I understand the band is a tool, I need to work at it, etc., I guess my question is probably better phrased:

Do you find that you lose weight faster right after getting a fill and then it evens out until the next fill?

In my experience, I lost great for a couple of weeks after a fill, then it levels off. Part of that is because after a fill I'm back on liquids for 2 days, then mushies for 2. My last fill put me at great restriction, so I believe my weight loss will be about 1-2 lbs. per week from here on out. Of course, that also depends on me choosing the right foods, and exercising.

I hope this answers your question.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
