New here - Banded 10 Days Ago & now sick

Recommended Posts

Hi. First post on here. I've been lurking a few weeks and thought I'd come out and say hello. I got banded on April 10th and have lost 19 lbs so far. Nothing though in the last two days since switching to foods like grits & mashed potatoes. Is that normal? I was really enjoying the weight loss when I was on the Soups - but NOT the liquid in-liquid out. UGH!

A couple days ago I came down with a cold. I've got a horrid sinus infection and coughing all night long. I'm going to try to get in to see my regular dr tomorrow for an antibiotic. Is it possible to have coughed my band loose or anything? Today I seemed to eat more than previously; I don't feel necessarily hungry but not full either. Maybe it's still because it's mushy foods?

I was banded April 3, 09 and was put in the hospital for extreme pain for 3 days following...I have only lost 13 lbs, but as I was going into week 2, I was extremely hungry and started eating anything...Now I'm in week 3, but I'm at a steady weight...not losing but not gaining either...I know what u mean about the liquid in, liquid out...lol...I suffer w/sinus infections quite often, and I had to get my ENT to give me liquid meds, so keep that in mind.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
