Recommended Posts

I am new to this site an dam loving it so far. I am just beginning my journey down the road of Lap Band Surgery. Iam wondering if anyone knows anything about the docs here in Asheville...good or bad. How long does it take to get the insurance approval??I know you have to undergo several tests and be monitored on a medically supervised weight loss program for 6 months but when all is complete how long does it tak eto hear something?? Anyone else have GEHA insurance?

I am really loving this site and look forward to talking with all of you. It is really nice to know that there is support and care out there!!

I'm nowhere near NC, but I wanted to welcome you to the board. I'm at the front end of the process as well. I think I got my approval last week. I'll make all the phone calls again today to see if the doc's office is ready to make the pre-op appt. It took about a month to get the insurance approval, but I bugged the crap out of everyone (politely of course) so that no one would let my papers wait too long. I gathered all my medical records myself and took them to the first appt with the surgeon. I self-payed for the psychologist so that I wouldn't have to wait. I'm happy I used the psychologist the surgeon recommended since she knew EXACTLY what the insurance company would be looking for.

Good luck in your journey and feel free to keep asking questions. With all the people on this board, these is always someone with first hand experience for most any topic!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
