Eating Too Much?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on March 19 and I am getting my first fill on Friday. I have noticed that I am eating more than athe 4oz recommended. Is that normal because my band is not filled at all?

I was told 3/4 cup of food would be a normal meal. That's 6 oz. And, since you haven't had a fill yet, if you're able to stick close to the guidelines, you're doing very well since a lot of people in the same time frame are starving to death and have a very hard time even staying close to the guidelines.

Yes, it's normal! You're exactly right; until you get restriction (and it will likely take more than one fill for you to experience that) your band is just "there". Some very few people have swelling post op that, for a while, limits what they can eat for several weeks. Most recover more quickly than that. Some just stick to a small amount of food out of will power, but many do not. Some even gain back some weight that was lost pre and initially post op. It's a process. You're right on track!

Very normal. Once you start getting your fills, you will have greater restriction which will impede the amount you are able to consume. Just an FYI: Not everyone has great restriction on the first fill. The majority of people need several fills before they reach their sweet spot.

Good luck on your journey!

I just received my second fill this morning,I now have a total of 4.5 cc in a 14 cc band. I had no restriction, in fact, I could eat a six inch subway without a hitch. While I made a wise choice in food, I know the volume allowed was too dangerous for me. I hope I have more restriction with my new fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
