I was told also no white Pasta or easer yet (lol) no white four products at all for a while. Well last week i went to lunch with my boss and had a burrito ate about half went down fine but about 15 min.'s later OH MY GOD the pain. I guess the torttilla swelled up and OUCH. So i've learned my lession. Others will say "check with your doc" this is good sound advise. I've also read where others have no problem with breads and pastas. If you want to be a hard head (lol) like me (I'm always testing my limits) you could try but its not advisable.

Everybody is different in what they can and cannot eat. I've been fine so far and can eat everything just fine. obviously whole wheat Pasta is healthier for you than white pasta. plus I haven't even noticed a difference in the taste.

I was told no regular Pasta at all and whole wheat pasta in very small amounts. Really, why would you want the plain pasta when the whole wheat is simply healthier, regardless of the band? I switched over to whole wheat pasta when it first hit the marketplace. You have to cook it a couple of minutes long but I like it just fine. haven't eaten ANY pasta since getting banded, but that's by choice.

I think the problem with white Pasta is a general lack of nutritional "bang". Our nutritionist said if we just HAD to have it (or rice, for that matter) to make sure it was well done, because as you know pasta keeps on absorbing liquids and can therefore swell. So with proper restriction you can end up with a pouch full of pasta that will just swell and that's not good.

Just be careful with pasta and rice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
