Stuck and don"t know how to move on

Recommended Posts

Well I had surgery 3/5/08. I have had some great success and lost 60lbs in a year. Well since my one year check up I have been stuck. I have changed my workout changed my eating around but seem to not be able to get over this pleateau. I am not sure what else to do. Has anyone ever tried the colon cleanse? If so which one was good? Should I possibly try liquids for a few days or week? I am just stuck. I started at 294lbs and now I am about 230-235. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Hey there.. I have had this happen to me as well, a couple of suggestions I have are.. try 2 days of liquids, 2 days of mushies.. or try and increase excercize time but lower the resistance part. You might also try increasing your caloric intake. Some times your body thinks it is in starvation mode and won't let any of the weight go. If you add calories your body sometimes will let you lose. I did these 3 things at different plateau times and they worked for me. I hope that helps and good luck!!!

I got stalled, had a problem with my band, and gained 30 pounds. Grrrrrr. I wanted to jump start two so I'm trying three things. First, I'm back to a support group so I have to be accountable and keep thinking about how to use my band correctly. I've upped my exercise. And lastly I did a 9 day Isagenix cleanse. I don't sell it but I learned about it from a friend. It went well and I lost 5 pounds and felt great. Loved the shake and just got the 30 day program. It's simple and is just what i needed to give myself a jump start and get as healthy as I can. On my latest order I added bars and Soup. I'm eating one healthy meal and one snack a day. I look forward to the meal and choose carefully - low fat Protein and veggies are very appealing when they're your one meal of the day :-). They have another plan that's 2 meals and a shake or bar a day and I'll evenually work up to that one. Anyway, for what it's worth, it has helped me to do a cleanse and sort of reset my mind and body both.

Thank you for all your great suggestions. I am trying the liquids and upping my exercise so we will see how that goes. I may try the cleanse as well just as another boost. Thanks again.

A suggestion would be to get back to basics. 1000-1200 calories per day. Eat Protein first - 60 grams of Protein per day and exercise. Are you still hungry after eating 4-5 oz of protein ?? does it hold you for 5 hours?? If not, Call your Doc, you probably need another adjustment.

You're doing great. 71 lbs is fantastic.:bored:

I am in the same boat at you. I had my surgery 1/19/07. On surgery day I was 300.5 pounds. Currently stuck at 220-225 (for several months) I started the 5 Day Pouch Test Diet on Monday. Hoping it will jumpstart things. You can Google to get the info if you have not heard of it. There is also a thread for it under the nutrition section.

I started the 5 Day Pouch Test Diet on Monday

I tried the 5 Day Pouch Test 2 weeks ago, and I didnt lose a pound! I was rather disappointed, but I've heard such good things about other people's success. I guess it just wasnt for me.

I was told by my surgeon's dietician that adding some weight training in addition to the treadmill might help jump start things...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
