Hey there!

I was going to get banded in October, but a few days before I was going in for my pre-op stuff, my dad had a stroke, so I canceled the procedure and spent a month in Oregon with my folks.

After everything stabilized, I did my pre-op and I was banded on 4-14 at 1PM by Doctor Brown in St. Luke's in Denver, CO. I'm a 30 year old male and had never had surgery before (or even really ever been in the hospital outside of minor injuries).

They wheeled me into the OR and that's the last I remember until waking up and struggling to catch my breath. They had me on oxygen, and every time I feel asleep, my sleep apnea would kick in and coupled with the anesthesia, I would stop breathing. They ended up keeping me on oxygen overnight, which was a pretty pleasant hospital stay. I went home the next morning and I've been still doing the liquid thing as following what I've been told.

The only alarming thing so far is that between my last meal on Saturday the 11th and noon to today, my weight has dropped from 390 to 365. I'm assuming this is mostly Water and the fact that the few weeks before the liquid diet started, I kinda pigged out and gained about 10 pounds.

The wounds are healing, I've been trying to walk each day but til today was blizzarded in, so minor gas pains aside because I haven't been walking much, things are going great so far.

Congrats on your surgery! That's pretty cool that your weight dropped that much. Just start walking around your house, that will help alot with all the pain.

Hi there

Welcome and congrats on your surgery. Hope your recovery is fast and smooth.

There's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time. It's a wonderful place for support.

Also, you've been added to the list of April bandsters HERE.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
