me me me

I was banded by Dr. Richardson on 12 26 2007. I've lost 72 lbs to date. I don't see Dr. Richardson any more. I see Amber Plaisance (sp?) the phy assistant. I really don't go in much anymore. They think I'm done as I have lost 72% of my excess weight and therefore a SUCCESS. She is great. She does my fills.

How are you doing?

My dad is scheduled for pre op with Dr. Richardson on Wednesday for a bypass. He hasn't actually seen him yet, but I do know that he is highly recommended and my dad is traveling 80 miles to have him do it rather than using the doctors around Baton Rouge, because his cardiologist and PCP think so highly of Dr. Richardson. Go see him and let me know what you think.

Well, his education looks good, but I really can't find much about him beyond that. I ABSOLUTELY do not want to do b y-pass, but I have over 100 pounds to lose, about 140 i think, and I don't want to be pushed and nagged into something other than banding. At this point losing 72% of 140 lbs would be great.

What was his pre-op diets requirements? liquid diet, etc??? Any and all info would be great!! i attend the seminar on April 29th and its a no brainer with my insurance(mho), so I am hoping to have surgery in June, no later than July.

Yup, I am ready to just be overweight instead of OBESE, lol:thumbup:

My dad isn't being pushed into bypass. He weighs 450 and KNOWS that the band isn't the correct tool for him, because he sees how disciplined I have to be. He sees my success so far and knows I love being banded, but it isn't what HE needs.

I think his information has him on 10 day liquid preop. They will give you a folder of info when you go.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
