hi lapbandgirl,

it may be a few days... take a stool softener 2x's a day until regular... that is what the hospital gave me, and it worked like a charm without any pain and straining.

good luck

I had my surgery on the 16th and I still haven't had a BM. Today I took some Milk of Magnesia but nothing yet. I wasn't on a pre-op diet so I had a regular dinner the night before surgery and I'm surprised I haven't had one yet.

I'm still waiting for the BM too. I don't want to take anything too violent. I suspect the pain meds haven't helped much.

I hadn't had one for 5 days post-op so I had my mom bring me over some Phillip's Milk of Magnesia (horrid nasty stuff, I tell you!) BUT, about 24 hours after taking the stuff I finally started having BMs. My BMs were very liquidy for about a week after but at least I was having them.

I had surgery on April 16th and still no BM, though it feels like I will soon. Are stool softeners relatively safe? I thought of taking one but haven't.

Relax. I waited most of a week. In my situation, I had been on liquid diet for 15 days pre-op, (absolutely nothing to eat) then post op I only drank Water and some fruit juice for the 4 days - so all in all, there was not much of anything to get rid of...

So, unless you are uncomfortable, I would relax and not worry

Just went through a 6 day, um "dry" spell after my 2nd fill last week. Today was a hallelujah day after some help from a little pill I picked up at the pharmacy. Hello new life! The pounds shed are definately worth it. Usually there is no discomfort and typical BM's every 2-3 days.

Good luck and happy pooping!

It took me 8 days post-op to go. Thats not to say that everyone should go so long but I knew that it would take me a while since for each of my 3 c-sections i did the same thing. If you don't go after a few days call your doc.

Hi It took me about a week,

My doctor strongly believes in "no unnecessary medication to be given" and suggested the Water I drink will do the trick and it did help in my BM. :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
