roseyandmusic 0 Posted April 18, 2009 :tt1: Hi! I am looking for a good surgeon in Mexico. I am interested in the "medical tourism" program. Anyone have their procedure done with Dr. Arturo Rodriguez from Monterrey, Mexico. Thanks

Anyone have their procedure done with Dr. Arturo Rodriguez from Monterrey, Mexico. Thanks What type of surgery are you planning on having? I had a revision from the band to the sleeve a little over 2 weeks in Mexico with Dr. Aceves. I can attest to the fact that the care was excellent, the hospital was clean and modern, and the surgery was a success.
roseyandmusic 0 Posted April 18, 2009 I want a sleeve or bypass. Nota band because I do not think my body will do well with a foreign object.
multiplepetmom 0 Posted April 18, 2009 you need to decide if you need malabsorption or not. if restriction only is what you need, Dr. Aceves has lots of experience with VSG - I had my sleeve done by him last August and it couldn't have gone better. :tt1:

Are you a volume eater or a junk food eater or both? The sleeve is a restrictive weight loss surgery (as is the band). The bypass is a restrictive AND a malabsorptive procedure and requires some life long changes. Have you decided which is best for you? Once you decide, it will be easier to make a choice concerning what surgeon is best for you.

WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted April 19, 2009 :tt1: Hi! I am looking for a good surgeon in Mexico. I am interested in the "medical tourism" program. Anyone have their procedure done with Dr. Arturo Rodriguez from Monterrey, Mexico. Thanks I prefer Dr. Aceves. I like the fact that he makes a small, tight sleeve and he's never had a sleeve leak in over 500 sleeves. And he's FACS.
Elisabethsew 50 Posted April 19, 2009 I am a junk, volume, emotional eater. What would you suggest is best? Do you have a lot of weight to lose? If you have the sleeve, 60 to 80% of your stomach is removed. THAT gives you restriction as the amount of food you can consume is markedly reduced. If you have gastric bypass, the size of your stomach is reduced (restriction), the pyloric sphincter at the bottom of your stomach is removed so food dumps into the intestine, and some of your intestines are cut out resulting in malabsorption. The amount of malabsorption depends on how much intestine is removed. I did not want the dumping syndrome or the malabsorption but some people need both. d7layman 2 Posted April 24, 2009 I had a gastric sleeve in Mexico by Dr. Almanza in January and am down 60 pounds and loving it! Off the insulin and all the other medications that I had to take related to my obesity. The doctor was excellent, the facility extremely clean and the care was fabulous! I would highly recommend them and the procedure! Good luck to you!
WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted April 24, 2009 An actual hospital is far superior for major surgery. The better doctors in Mexico tend to work out of HOSPITALS and not clinics.
Elisabethsew 50 Posted April 25, 2009 I agree, there is no way I would risk NOT going to a real hospital. Having surgery and recovering in a clinic is not safe... here or abroad.
