KRISPYKREME 0 Posted April 18, 2009 Help, everone!! I am being banded on the 27th and am worried about missing all the food I used to eat (that got me obese in the first place!). What will I do w/o eating to comfort me??? Will I get over it eventually? Will I miss it at all? I haven't even had my band yet and I am mourning food! Is this sick or what?:tt1: Also, this preop diet sucks!
lml32937 65 Posted April 18, 2009 For me personally not dwelling on what I couldnt have and rather enjoying and experimenting with what I could have has gotten me thru. I have lost all my cravings I had before my surgery and don't really have that "desire" to chow down anymore- It is only 3 weeks out..... I have been out twice with friends and havent felt out of place- Most places have Soup or something mushy-last night I ate with a spoon instead of tortilla chips spinach and artichoke dip and it was good- yeah I only had a few bites but it was nice to be with friends.... I think those feelings you have is normal- That is what this board has brought me- reassurance you are not alone and encouragment to get thru this! Good luck! boyX 0 Posted April 21, 2009 I had that same problem a couple weeks before my surgery. I love food. It really felt like I was ending a love affair I didn't really want to but had to because it was killing me. I was banded on April 8th and it hasn't been so bad so far but I expect some degree of grieving over my ended relationship with food. Like any other bad relationship you have to learn to move on and become a better person for yourself first and the people you love and that love you back second. bella5425 0 Posted April 24, 2009 i was just banded yesterday and last night i had a good cry over the end of my relationship with dr pepper and cheeseburgers. i didn't have to do a pre-op diet so i feel some withdrawal right now but i am hoping that in time it will pass and i will replace those bad habits with good ones. good luck on your journey! katie
jack&kota 0 Posted April 24, 2009 This is a natural thing to be feeling. I ate some of those items I enjoyed after surgery when I was on normal food (12 weeks out). As I got to the right level of restriction and over time, I just don't desire those foods anymore. It was a nice transition and I lost during it so I am happy. swrktp 1 Posted April 25, 2009 I think this is a natural thing.........I was banded on 4/13/09. I am missing food too. I had a few days of OMG what did I do I can't eat anymore............psychological addictions are always way harder to break than physical ones................I knew it was gonna be hard.............and it has been. Your mind plays games with you..............I am about two weeks out and it is getting easier but I really think this is all normal part of being banded. Best of luck. Next week is the big day!! 39andholding 0 Posted April 27, 2009 I haven't been banded yet and also wondering what will I DO?! I'm a SAHM and spend all day filling sippy cups and making Snacks, I open the fridge 50 times a day... I'm worried I don't have enough hobbies. :
WOWOX7 0 Posted April 27, 2009 krispykreme, Honestly, I thought I would miss certain food BIG time and I was very, very concerned. I commited myself to this, and somehow,,, your wants and tastes change. Alot of the foods you can still have, JUST IN MODERATION..... My big loss was Diet Cherry Coke, I missed it very badly. I have tried all the differant ways to try and get the fizz out.. It just does not work for me. IT is just not worth the feeling sick when I do try it. Again, Your wants change. kgloverii 0 Posted April 27, 2009 As you get your fills and your restriction, your relationship with food WILL change. For the BETTER. I promise. You'll stop thinking of it so often and not have such a fondness for eating to fill up. I LOVE MY FOOD and am quite the foodie, and have learned to cook DELICIOUS meals, and am a MUCH better cook post-band. But now, I don't obsess over what to eat. You'll get there too.
