OK, I am really confused about some things! I am just starting this process, went to seminar, will see doc. asap.

Am wondering about my diet and exercise plan for the next 6 months. What if I lose enough to be under the BMI requirements? Does that mean that surgery won't be approved?

Hi Missy,

I have been following a 3-month supervised diet; however, because some of my appointments had to be changed my appointments sort of jumped around, so technically the diet portion of my plan I followed 2 months' worth; last month and this month. I started the exercise part on February 24th, the diet part March 4, so far I have lost 15 pounds.

Anyway, basically, all the insurance company wants to see is that you are compliant by keeping track of your exercise and keeping logs of what you are eating and making good choices and staying on track with exercise. I was afraid of that as well, but since my BMI was in the high 40s, then by the time next month when all is said and done, I won't be below it, but even if you are, they should still approve you.

I hope this helps and good luck to you :))

usually they use your weight before it all starts. My moms nutritionist messed up her papers. She has to do a 6 month pre-op diet and her nutritionist says she has been doing the program for 3 months but it is recorded in her insurance as 4 1/2 months. She is a little upset. The nutritionist didn't have a scale to weigh her. So the first 3 times she went in they didn't record her weight loss. So that month and a half don't even count. You would they should have had a scale that would weigh her. It is a nutritonist/dietition(sp) clinic. Anyway, long story short they should use youe weight before you start the diet.

My Dr used my pre-diet weight. I started dieting as soon as I decided on this method - even prior to my family Dr consult. I just want to be healthy and was bound to get there whatever way possible. That being said, I am really happy there will be no more yo-yo'ing.

You must take an expert opinion or consult a dietitian regarding your diet plan and regarding exercises. Try and stay away from food that is rich in fat and sugar as during the time of surgery the fat and sugar content in blood should never be above normal otherwise there can be complications.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
