How long before you could sleep on your side? My back is hurting from laying flat on my back all the time. I'm walking around, sitting up most of the day but, I'm used to sleeping on my sides mostly. :)

I was able to sleep on my rightside at the hospital after surgery (my port is on my leftside) The only way I was able to lay on my side was to take a pillow and press it to my stomach as I rolled slowly to my side.

After about 10 days it didn't hurt much at all to lay on my side. I can now lay on my leftside without any issues. (Banded 3/30/09)

I'm the same way. I can only sleep on my side. I was sleeping on my side immediately after surgery. They gave me a pillow in the hospital and like greyhoundgirl I too used it to help roll from side to side. Once home I did the same thing every night for about 7-10 days. Just using a thin pillow crossways across your stomach seems to help support and cushion your incisions.

I did exactly what the two posters above did.

Just go slow.

Funny thing: when I lay on my left side now - my port side - I always burp right away. Roll to right, no burp. Roll to left, burp. Its weird.

Thanks for the tips! I tried to use the pillow to roll to my right a day or two ago and it hurt to much. It felt like something was pulling. I tried again last night and it worked. It felt soooo good.:tt1: My back was poppin and grinding like you wouldn't believe!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
