Hi

I used Dr. Brathwaite. He has an office in Patchogue & Mineola. I had the surgery at Winthrop Hospital.

I see you are doing terrific. Any advice for a newbie? I am only 12 days post op and lost 11 pounds in the first week and nothing so far this week. Has that happened to you?

Thanks. Good Luck to your friend.

Hi Kiki,

11 pounds the first week is VERy good. Don't worry it does slow down. I have had MANY slow times. Some months I have lost nothing, on average I lose about 2-4 pounds a month. It is slow but as long as it's down I am happy. I know why it is slow I don't exercise and many days I don't make the right food choices, but I love my band and feel great!

Keep in touch and let me know how your doing! Welcome to the Band world!

I have heard some good things about the program in Syosset, LIJ Hospital.

I was just banded by Dr. Geiss over at Syosset 3 weeks ago. I was very comfortable with him. He does only the band and he's in the OR 3x a week doing on average 5 patients a day. He's done more bands than anyone else on the east coast. He knows what he's doing.

My PCP recommended a Dr. at Mather whose name I forget but my insurance didn't use him. I've also heard very good things about Dr. Brathwaite in Patchogue and Dr. Gabriel at St. Catherines of Sienna.

Thank you all very much she is going to see Dr. Geiss June 9th. I wish I could switch my Dr. But Dr. Geiss will not take people who are already banded.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
