Do you successfully use the downward dog position when you are stuck

Recommended Posts

I would have never believed that this pose would help get things unstuck until I tried it myself as it seems counter-productive to getting food thru the band. It works for me 99% of the time which I am thrilled about, but I don't understand the mechanics of it and would very much like to hear anyone else's theories about how or why it works. Do you think its that it forces air from the bottom of your stomach up thru the band opening thereby dislodging the food???? It really does work if you haven't tried it.....for me anyway. I have to do it at the first inkling of 'stuck' and sometimes it takes a couple of times but the majority of the time it is successful. My husband teases me that it looks like I'm getting ready for a race....so he says "runners on your marks"!!! Wise guy....LOL! Anyway, if it works for you too I'd like to hear your take on how you think it works. Thanks in advance!!

Very interesting! I will definately have to try this.. I have never heard of it.. My doc suggested doing this after banding to help the gas move from the shoulders.. I wish I would've know this when I was ohhhh soo stuck last night on a banana. Ugh! I was up until 1:30 waiting for that sucker to come up or go down!

Thanks for the info:)

I have tried this a few times since I read about it in a post last week. However, for me it doesn't get the stuck food through the band, but rather it helps me bring it up. I have had more food get stuck in the past two weeks than has made it through. I would swear I am cutting my food into bits and chewing enough but obviously I am doing something wrong.

Can you describe exactly what you are doing and the position you are in? I am trying to gather as many helpful hints as I can before surgery! Thanks!

I'm going to try it as well. Its a yoga position, not that I know what it is, but I'll try it. Try googling the term downward dog, I'm sure you will come up with something.

I'm going to google it, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised it one of the hits happens to say something about a sexual position...lol

Another remedy that I have tried at the suggestion of others on this web site is to take a small drink of pineapple juice. I think the acid in it helps to dissolve whatever you have eaten and then it just passes on down. I had read this several times and then decided to buy some in case I ever got stuck and when I did it did work. Don't drink a lot but just a couple of small swallows and then wait a minute or two. I buy the small cans and they can even be carried along in case you are out somewhere and have a problem.

Yes I do this as well and it helps every time. Tiny sips though! Take a few, then wait it out. I also do a position on the chair by putting my two hands down by my side. Then I extend my arms straight and elongate my midsection. I don't know why but this helps too.

Getting up and walking around and getting your burps out helps too. I call it "burping" myself, like you would a little baby after it eats... LOL!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
