Banded on 4-16-09

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I was just banded yesterday. I had to stay in the hospital overnight because of my sleep apnea. Everything went well and I am at home now.

I have a long journey but am excited about getting to my goal. My first goal is to get through the first two weeks of liquids. Anything to watch out for or anything that worked for you?

Congratulations on the Lapband.

Remember to take it easy and follow your Dr's recommendation. Your on the road on a journey that will bring many benefits.

I had sleep apnea and after 6 months I no longer had to use the CPAP machine. Along the way my doctor took me of diabetic medicine about a year ago due to the weight loss.

Be realistic about your goals.

congratulation on your band and good luck to you on your journey. I was banded on the 16th also and had to spend the night in the hospital, doctor's policy. I was ok with that I think it worked out better having trained nurses keeping an eye on me for the night.

Congrats!

I was banded on the 14th and was so happy to see that you a jfc193 were also banded around the same time:thumbup:.

I had to also stay in the hospital Doctors orders. It was fine the only complication I had was uvulitis after the surgery. It was huge:eek:and felt weird. I was freaking out seriously it was as wide as my thumb. It's back to normal thank goodness I wouldn't want to walk around like that.

I'm on liquids including skim milk for 10 days...it's not that bad. sugar free popsicles are good. Not too many choices.

Well girls I hope we stay in touch throughout this journey. take care.

CONGRATULATIONS! to you and the others that I saw on what is the most important day of the year to me also! I did not have to stay overnight, but I had to have someone with me. I don't have sleep apnea, but was on the road there. Good luck and God Bless!

I had my band on Apr 23rd. I had problems because the I-V came out when I was moved from recovery to my room, and 4 nurses poking 12 holes in my hands and arms couldn't get the I-V started for 12 hours after surgery. I have sleep apnea also and stayed in the Hosp for 2 nights. Had trouble froathing and could not keep down liquids for most of the first week. Lost 26 lbs the first week. See the Dr. this Wed and expect that I have lost another 15 lbs or so. Finally feeling real well, able to eat mashed potatos, tuna salad and other soft foods as long as I take small bites, chew well and eat S-L-O-W.

Thank goodness for Orange koolaid and Ozarka Water. Kept me going for the first 10-12 days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
