Traveling 6 weeks after banding

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am being banded on May 6, and thinking about booking a 5-day cruise to Mexico the last week of June.

Has anyone traveled outside the country that soon after being banded? I realize it's not REALLY "outside" the country since it's on a boat but I just want to be reassured that I'll be good to go 6 weeks after! I am hoping I will already have the "hang" of things so that I can fully enjoy myself and not be worried.

Thanks!

Amy

My only advice was that you shouldn't eat when you're getting onto a plane - I did, and I ended up throwing up into an airsick bag while we were taking off... it was horrible. Nothing to do with the traveling, but because I wasn't allowed to get out of my seat to go to the toilet to PB.

The only thing I would say is be careful of overeating on the cruise. Cruises are notorious for their food but you really don't want to throw up anytime...let alone that soon after surgery so really just be careful of overeating. Other than that, have a BLAST!! I'm jealous! :)

Thanks guys! I am pretty excited.

Before my whole "journey" thus far I probably wouldn't have ever done this... but I am kind of looking at it as my REWARD - and I am nervous about being around all that food but I can handle it!

:)

Oh and PS, I wont be flying. I'm driving to where the ship leaves from.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
