Hello everyone, I'm so glad I found this site. I'm due to have my surgery on April 22, and as I'm sure many of you already know, I have sooo many questions. First. I've been reading the blogs and have been looking for the pre-surgery grocery list. If anyone can direct me that would be wonderful. I want to get out this weekend and get things I'll need when I come home. Thanks for all your help.

Don't know your doctor's guidelines. But you will likely be on Clear liquids for at least a few days (I was on liquids for 10 days and the first three were pretty much clear liquids). Apple juice, white grape juice, Protein shakes (the one exception to "clear"), broths. Do youself a favor on the broths. Do this. Buy a cheap cut of roast and a whole chicken. Then cook this way. Put chicken or roast in a large pot and cover with Water. Add an onion, quartered -- don't even bother to peel it. A bay leaf, some onion, some carrots, some celery and season. Then cook the chicken to death. Strain off all the solids and you end up with rich, flavorful STOCK which is like 100 times better than broth from a can. When you cook the roast, you can add potatoes to the concoction. You can't eat the potatoes, but if you're feeding a family, they will have all their veggies in the pot. I don't want to say you can have this or that because what my doctor says is okay may not agree with your doctor. I suggest you call your doctor's office and ask them to fax or email to you a food guidelines for the immediate post-op period.

Also, get some Gas-X strips and if you don't have a heating pad, buy one. You will have gas that can be painful at times. The Gas-X does a great job and the heating pad can be placed over any soreness you might have OR over where the gas pains are at any given moment.

Thanks for all the info. I did get a sheet from the doctor of things I'll need. I was just kind of hoping that I'd get like "the best Protein powder, or drink" things like that. I didn't get a lot of sample packets of everything so I was hoping I could "bypass" the hit or miss with some of these things lol

And how do you get your ticker to post on here, I can't figure mine out, lol.

Hi there TerriLynne,

Congrats on your date. You've been added to the list of April bandsters HERE.

Also, there's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time. You'll find a few lists in this forum but I think Cathy has pretty much summed up the essentials.

Pharmgirl, thanks so much for adding me to the list, and for info on the april bandsters.

I'm still trying to learn how to navigate the site, so any shortcuts are appreciated.

Tell me how do you get your tickers to show up on your postings...I'm having a devil of a time figuring that out. lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
