Does anyone find that if they skip Breakfast because they are too tight in the mornings etc do you find you arent really hungry till after lunch whereas if you have something for breakfast you are starving a couple of hours later?

Does this happen to anyone else?

Yes- I am right there with you:0) I find the less I eat all day the less I am hungry. Than when i do eat - the more I eat all day long. But I know this isn't right & isn't healthy. I think thats why I just Fricking gained 2 whole pounds this past two days. This is so hard to do.

I prefer to have no breakfast. One week after my fill, I never really had breakfast and had lunch and fruits for dinner..all was great and dandy. Then now, when I have breakfast, I am always hungry and I'm totally overeating for lunch and dinner!

I've noticed this about myself many years ago, and I have been guilty of not eating breakfast (thinking if I'm not hungry, why eat, maybe I'll lose weight? Which, obviously, never worked) and waiting until lunchtime or even later for many years. I've finally figured out why . . .

Many people experience a lack of hunger in the morning, and an increase in appetite when they eat. This has to do with insulin levels, which, when triggered, increase hunger. This is simplifying matters - but it has a lot to do with WHAT a person eats in the morning. If they eat primarily Protein, and very low or no carbohydrates, usually they will not experience an increase in hunger, but a decrease, because Protein does not spike insulin levels like carbohydrates do, thus creating hunger (This is why low-carb works for so many people). In fact, it is not good to wait until after noon to eat for several reasons - your body (& brain) obviously needs fuel and it can begin to think that its starving, thus slowing down your metabolism (making it harder to burn calories and lose weight). When your body does signal a need for food, generally, a person is then ravenous, and first thing to satiate is usually quick carbs - thus spiking insulin (blood sugar) levels into wild swings that are difficult to get regulated which perpetuates a cycle of hunger that is difficult to satiate.

So - the long and the short is that if a person can just eat protein in the morning (low or no carbs), your metabolism will be working (i.e. burning calories), your body will have fuel, and it will set one up for better lunchtime decisions. That's my take on some of the medical stuff I've read. I'm sure it is far more complex than this . . . but I've started to really value the fact that I have to have some protein in the morning, and too little early in the day sets me up for greater hunger later in the day. I used to also die for a cup of coffee in the morning, but that craving went away when I started eating something for breakfast - because I did need food to wake me up!!

So - just my thoughts on it!

Well, I'm hungry the minute I wake up. Sometimes its all I can do to wait until 9:00 AM to eat my little breakfast. However, if I am on the go early in the morning it doesn't bother me at all. Go figure!

I experience this same thing. What Thinkthin says makes alot of sense too. I try and have bran Cereal, or applesauce and a v8 for breakfast. Both of those choices are healthy, but they are also carby and don't have much protien. A couple of hours later, I'm hungry. I'll have to try having an egg or something for breakfast tomorrow :)

I agree 100%

I only eat protein in the morning..it keeps my hunger at bay all day. If I start my day with any kind of carbs, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, breads potatoes Im ravished all day and wil lpick and graze Carbs will crave more carbs and so will surgar it is a proven fact!..what do you eat for breakfast Kellie? If you skip breakfast how do you get in 60 grams of protein i na day? Curious?

I always have a Protein Shake for breakfast. If I eat ANY kind of carbs in the morning it makes for a sucky rest of the day. I have very low energy and am very hungry a short time later.

I don't cook any Protein in the am because I start work at 6:30am and have a 1/2 drive there. I like my sleep toooo much to get up any earlier to cook. My shakes are made the night before and I just grab one and go!

I'm not banded yet but I already find if I dont eat in the mornings I am less hungry during the day and can make it to a late lunch no problems. I tend to then eat a substantial lunch that gets me through to dinner and hence no afternoon snacking.

yet I do eat Breakfast because we've been told so often its bad for your metabolism not to. And certainly in periods where I havent eaten breakfast I havent lost any weight.

I've been banded 5 weeks and still fill up quickly and easily. It's not that I am necessarily "tight", just I think, that I have learned new eating habits and I want so badly for this to work that I am not about to overeat and ruin it all. I see no reason to have a fill any time soon.

Yes this happens to me, too. Seems that if I eat something solid for breakfast (or much more than a little for lunch), it throws me off for the rest of the day and I eat too much and don't feel good.

Kelli, cut out the Nutri Grain bar for breakfast, it is loaded with carbs and surgar which can very well be the reason you are hungry all day long. For breakfast I usually have scrambled egg whites with cheese with turkey sausage or turkey bacon, sometimes I make an omelette with all kinds of veggies.with cottage cheese .but never crabs or I'm eating and hungry all day long..try just Protein in the morning you will be amazed at the difference in your hunger throughout the day

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
