Hi all. Man here. I got banded on 3/12 and had my first fill this past Monday with 3cc added. I had some initial restriction after I had the procedure but after a few weeks I noticed I was able to eat respectable amounts that weren’t going to allow me to lose any additional weight.

I can definitely tell I have more restriction now after my fill but I am having a hard time determining if what I am feeling is food getting stuck or if this is my “new full”. After I eat I notice it feels like food is backing up in my esophagus and my chest gets real tight…is this my new full?? This may be TMI but I even feel like I could probably bring the food up if I had to and being on the verge of throwing it up if I take another bite. If I take this as my queue to stop eating and once the food has time to “drain through the funnel” I find myself feeling hungry again pretty quick. I had a bowl of chicken noodle Soup for lunch today with a fat free pudding and felt very satisfied at the time but now I feel very hungry! Am I not eating enough? Do I need to try eating more at meal time but just more slowly? Am I not chewing thoroughly? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Is the sensation of tightness in your chest extremely uncomfortable, or painful? About how much food are eating before this happens? These are all questions that you need to ask yourself. I know if I eat too much or too fast I get a feeling in my chest like no other , it hurts I can't breathe, it actually brings me to tears. Try eating a little less at meals and see what happens. Also make sure that you are chewing, chewing, chewing. I hope you figure out what is going on, because I know having food stuck is no walk in the park. Good luck

The exact feeling you stated is my signal to stop right then. I usually do not let myself get to the point of feeling the food back up. But it sounds to me that this is your new "FULL". Lets face it if it takes only a half a cup or so of food to get to feeling this way its reasonable to be hungry within a few hours.

My doctor told me eating any kind of soup with broth is a big no no. He says the broth with the soup makes the soup itself pass right through the band and it doing this, you will not have the fullness feeling. However, I have found that Cream of chicken is just as satisfying and keeps me full longer than trying to eat soup with broth. Try the cream of chicken and see how it goes. Also cream of brocolli is really good to. Just add a little bit of salt to it and it goes down easily and (as for myself) I have no problems with it getting stuck.

I also recently had my first fill on 03/23. I have experienced the same thing over the past couple of weeks. My suggestion to you is when you feel that feeling STOP eating right away. On Tuesday night at dinner I got that feeling and ignored it and had just one more small bite. Bad decision!!! From that point I was so uncomfortable for about 45 minutes, before I gave in and experienced my first PB. My experience is that I feel this feeling at about 5 - 6 oz's of food consumption. So now my new game plan is to only make my portion size 6 oz's and the moment I feel that feeling the rest of the meal goes in the fridge or in the trash. It is definately not worth it to take one bite more.

i had my surgery on the 31st of march, and i experienced what you described, the pain is intense, and like a 'lump' in my throat , broke out into a sweat, and ultimately it just came back up, and felt better immediately, i attribute it to not chewing my egg white carefully and eating too fast...not fun!!!!!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
