Does weight loss pick up once you hit the sweet spot

Recommended Posts

I am two months post op and am barely losing weight. I was wondering if the weight loss will pick up once my band is filled to where it is suppose to be. I work out everyday and eat quality meals and still nothing. Almost all the weight loss on my ticker is preband.

Absolutely, restriction can make all the difference in the world because that is where your caloric intake is changed. If you are only eating half of what you were before you are going to see weight loss. My doctor actually told me that I should consider any weight loss from surgery through the first fill as a bonus, sometimes people don't lose during this stage. Expecially considering your body just went through a major shock.

As long as you are following bandster rules and staying away from slider foods, bad carbs and eating Proteins and veggies first while incorporating exercise, you will definitely lose more and more as time goes on. Hang in there and best of luck to you.

Dan, I am with you there. The majority of my weight loss was also from my pre-op diet. I've had my first fill on 04/09/09. But I don't feel any restriction at all. Somehow I feel I am able to eat a bit more than before the fill. I lost a few pounds on the two days liquid diet after the fill, then everything stalls. I am not losing anymore weight. Sometimes I wonder if I need to go back to liquid diet to get the scale moving again. I am also waiting desperately for my fill to reaching the sweet spot. Hopefully and really hopefully, like everyone else, once we reach the sweet spot, weight will come off of us really smoothly and steadily.

This is where you really need to focus on the long-term! My doctor drilled into my head that it takes, realistically, about 3 months for the full benefit of the band to kick in. YES people will lose, some more than others. But your body needs to heal and recoup before it really starts kicking in.

DON'T GIVE UP!! Give it 3 months. Here is how I looked at it

If I lost ANYTHING, BONUS

If I didn't GAIN-I was ahead of the game

I know it's hard to go through everything we've gone through (surgery, pre-op, recovery, etc.) and then waiting for 3 months to see the fruits of our labor. But you must be patient. We did this to be healthy for the rest of our lives. And if we can't be patient for a few months and keep our "eye on the prize" then we need to reevaluate why we did this in the first place..:sneaky:

Hi,

I think you are doing great, but do remember when I felt that most of my weight was lost pre op.

I talked to my surgeon about this, and once she found out I was working out, and really doing a tough work out she told me to not focus on the pounds, but to put on a pair the same pants once a week. She said that someone 200 plus ( that was me) is gaining a lot of muscle, because it takes a lot of muscle to work out a 200 pounder..

I had surgery in Jan and have only lost 36 lbs. I was somewhat disappointed for a time, but now I am looking at the longer term goal and I see my body transforming before my eyes.

Keep eatting healthy, keep working out, and definately once you hit the sweet spot you will lose more!

I am impressed at your weight loss to date!

I think you are doing fine. I also question if I am losing enough weight. I had to go in yesterday for a fill 2 weeks early. I only lost 2 pounds after a month of my first fill. I don't know what is a lot but now I have 4cc total. I have only lost 17 pounds so far and I am 2 months post op. Do you find it hard to know the difference between feeling full and restriction. Many times I feel hungry still but no more food will go down. Dont' be discouraged, you seem to be on the right track!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
