I was banded on 4/7/09 which was about 8 days ago. I was told that I can have cream Soups with no chunks, pudding, jello- you know things like that. I have to admit that I ate some chunky food once today and had no probs getting it down. I chewed it very well and had no probs with it. Can anyone tell me what the exact reason is that they say no chunks? Why must it be basically Soup and stuff if it goes down fine? I know that there is a reason for it!!! Did anyone else out there eat food food before they were supposed to? I know I need to stick to the plan...just searching for support. :)

Your body is healing. The want your stomach to rest and if your putting solid foods into your stomach then stomach muscle is going to have to work to move that food into your intestines. Some say that this COULD POSSIBLY contribute to slippage in the future.

The best thing you can do for yourself is follow the Dr's instructions....it's only a few days out of the rest of your life....YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Like Big mama said.....Eating more substantial food causes peristaltic movements when your stomach digests. It's this movement that the docs want to avoid while the band "scars in" and the sutures heal up. So......No more real food until the doc says it's ok!

I had my surgery 4/9 and the doctor told me pureed food until I see him in his office next week. If you want the food that you are eating puree it and you can still have it. I am allowed 1/4 cuo if pureed food 3 times daily pluse sugar free popsicles, sf Jello, etc. I am doing great, have some swelling yet at port site and have lost 15 lbs since the 9th. Am very happy !!!!!!!!!!

You also have stiches in there. You don't want to move them. Stick with liquids or mushies... Don't mess it up after going this far. lol

Good luck~ It gets better

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
