Sooooo .... this is restriction

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I am Gini. I have been banded since Oct 2002. I lost 60+ lbs and then we decided to go to Paris a year ago ... so I got a slight unfill. Had a wonderful time, but waited too long after vacation to get a fill.

I gained about 20 - 25 back so I went for a fill on Monday. Dr. Spivak is the greatest, but he was a bit "brutal" on this fill as he "shoved" the Fluid back into my band. I have had plenty of fills in the past, but this one actually hurt!

Anyway, this fill seems to be HUGE!!! Dr. Spivak but in 2.7 and the barium went down fine. Water goes down, but slowly. I have not tried solids yet, but I have had cream of Tomato Soup and it came back up. I am also getting hiccups after Soup, milk, pudding, etc.

I have never had this experience after a fill. I am not sure if I should wait a bit to see if it loosens up or if I should go back and have 0.1 or so removed. Again, Water goes slow, but it stays down.

Any thoughts or experiences along these lines?

Thanks,

Gin

Sorry ... I guess I was not very clear.

I had several fills between 10/2002 to our vaction to Paris in 10/2004. At that time I had some removed so I could enjoy the wonderful foods in Paris. I actually had a fill about 6-8 months ago and really found it did not do much. So, it was 2 days ago that I went and was bumped from 2.2 to 2.7. He first tried 3.0 and the barium would not go down.

Its amazing what a difference 0.1cc can make lol.

I generally tend to wait about a week after a fill, just to see if it settles any, before going back to have some removed, but that's just cause I'm impatient and want this weight off yesterday.

If its really uncomfortable for you, I'd say have some taken out. If you feel like it will settle soon, wait a couple more days.

Good luck with it all and welcome to LBT :)

Once you get to solids and you see that you are having aproblem, definately have some Fluid removed. With ideal restriction you should still be able to eat solids without PBing on a daily basis. Ideal restriction you should not resort to liquids and soft foods.

My experience is that a fill usually 'settles in' to be tighter.

That being said, after the rough fiil, you might be a skosh swollen so I agree with what others have said...be easy, liquids and very soft mushies only for a week or so to see if things ease up.

I got the hiccups alot after my first fill, even on full liquids. Hiccups are also my "soft stop" signal. I agree that you might wait it out a week and see if the swelling from your brutal fill :) goes down. I also agree that you should be able to eat solids without PBing (following the bandster rules of eating, that is)

Wow, it's good to have you here! Keep us posted!

Ideal restriction, that's what I finally have now, I'm losing VERY slowly, I no longer PBing or vomiting when I eat. I eat 1/3 what I use to consume and feel better that I can tolerate meat and Proteins a bit more. I went for my follow up a few weeks ago and had some fill remove, I am at 1.65cc. I'm able to make smarter choices and no longer in the soft food syndrome. IDEAL Restriction, I finally get it, after 5 months of being banded....

Kathy...I get the hiccups (actually i get the schreeches...i sound like a teradactal [? spelling? ~ bird dinosoar] making a mateing call now when i get the hiccups) after only two or three bites of food... i am 35 days post op and not yet had a fill (i am fearful of getting one). Could it really be a warning sign that I am full?? I hope that could be; would be a good one..it sure would be obvious to me and those within a 50 foot radius of me.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
