2nd Day of liquid diet, worried about liver not shrinking enough

Recommended Posts

I am on my second day of my diet and I am starting to worry about my liver not shrinking enough. I have had years of overeating, drinking alcohol, and I am sure probably other unhealthy habits that I am not even aware of. My surgery is in 9 days and dont see how a two week liquid diet can really shrink my liver after years of unhealthy habits. I am on an 800 calorie liquid diet. The nurse said to drink slimfast, 3 cans per day and any low or no-calorie liquids. She said I could even have a glass of dry red or white wine as long as it falls into my 800 calorie allowance. I guess at this point I am so nervous and scared that something could go wrong. Any input or advice would be so appreciated.

I am actually really curious about mine too.

I have been doing a 2 Protein shake, 2 small lean meals per day for a week and a half now, and I have 2 1/2 more weeks left of it... I am down 11 lbs, but I wonder if there's any way to tell if we're getting there? I see my surgeon a week from tomorrow so I guess I will know more then but I want to know before then! :)

Sooo... anyone know anything 'bout livers?

Don't worry everything seems rough right now but believe me you will not regret it. Take it day by day and whenyou get frustrated think of where you will be in a few months from now. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

Your liver is incredibly resilient (sp) and can repair itself very quickly. So, if you are worried about what damage you have done in the past, I wouldn't. That is what the preop diet is for, to shrink your fatty liver. If you stick to the preop diet, you have no reason to worry. Good luck & it is worth it!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
