Help!! Banded 4weeks ago and still having pain at the port site!!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded March 18,2009. Almost 4 weeks have passed and I am still having pain at my port site. I only have this pain when I am sitting or when I rise up from sitting. This is when I feel the most pain at the port site.:) It appear to be getting worse, should I be worried? Is this normal? Is there any one out there who has experienced this discomfort also? Will it go away?

Ask your surgeon, especially if it seems to be worsening. It may be nothing, it may be adhesions, or it may be an infection. Don't wait; call tomorrow! If it IS an infection, the sooner you treat it the better off you'll be.

definately, you don't want an infection. but I will say there is a nagging sensation in the port sight that can last for months but will get better. it's been about 7 months for me now since i've been banded and every so often it reminds me it's still there but nothing bothersome, but definately if it feels like it getting worse don't hesitate to call the doctor

Hey chocolate Diamond! I am having the same issue with worsening pain at the port sight...what did your doctor say the reason was when you went to see him? Thanks!

My port site was irritating for the first three months. Now I don't even notice it at all. It is probably good to ask the DR. but my guess is that the irritation or minor pain will go away in time.

HI, Amandah

I am sorry it took me a while to reply to your post.

I never went to the doctor. I made the appt. but it stop hurting before I went, so I cancel the appt. I am sorry I couldn't help you. I do think you need to vist your doctor and if every thing checks out good ask him about the use of a abd binder.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
