I had my EGD today, I dont remember much...thanks to those wonderful drugs that knocked me out :). Everything went good but the Dr. said I had some acid reflux, which is strange to me bc I have never had heart burn, but he perscribed me Nexium and I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem? He showed me some pics but I was to doped up to remember what it looked like. Some biopsys were taken and sent away to be check but he said he didnt think it was anything to be worried about.

It is an upper endoscopy...where they take a camera tube thingy and go down your throat and look at your esophogus and stomach...one of the crazy procedures my insurance required

Nexium is a really good medication for acid reflux, but most insurances don't cover it. You can try getting Prilosec OTC, Aciphex, or Zantac. Acid reflux is really common. and if you cut out spicey foods, alcohol, chocolate it will minimize it! Good luck!

See I have never had acid reflux...not that I have ever noticed anyway...thats why this is so strange to me; I didnt have any problems with insurance covering the perscription, I just had a $3 copay...tricare is good for something right; but I am giving it a go bc the dr said so...thats why they get the big bucks right?

Your pretty lucky depending on the pharmacy nexium can be quite costly generally 100.00 a month.

My wife has to take it. She still has to remember not to each after 8:00 pm.

I've had GERD (gastroesphogeal reflux disorder) for years -- I thought I was having a heart attack and that is when it was diagnosed. At the time, Nexxium wasn't out - it was another purple pill and Zantac was by RX only. I was finally able to control it by diet, giving up soft drinks, caffeine, fried and spicy foods -- and cutting down to red meat 1x a week. I was able to go off all the medication after a year or so. Now, 20 years later, I only take Zantac if I eat something spicy or a spice that doesn't agree with me. I had the EGD too -- it came back fine -- I'm sure your's will too ... hopefully you'll be able to get of RX drugs (although for a $3 copay for Nexxium I'd stock up!). Just watch your diet and you should be able to get off the medication except on an as-needed basis. Good luck!:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
