Sugar free snacks????

Recommended Posts

You have to watch the calorie and fat content too. Many of those sugar free goodies are quite high in both.

I do not indulge in goodies on a regular basis. I need to leave room in my pouch for good nutritious food and as long as I am still in the losing stage I want to watch the in-between meal snacking. But when I do get a sweet tooth I eat 1/2 a South Beach Cereal bar or a SF Fudgecicle or Popsicle. South Beach also makes an oatmeal cookie snack that is pretty good if you watch how much you eat.

BTW, sugar alcohol will give you gas and possibly diarrhea so you may want to keep that in mind. But it does not affect your blood sugar.

I would be very careful with the sweets. Eating sugars and lots of carbs triggers your cravings and makes you want more and more. Also keep in mind you don't want to be eating alotta artifical sweetners and whatnot....I dont' care what they say I don't think any of that can really be good for us.

from my experience with the nutritionist and from having my band its better to eat some real sugar than fake sugar... it will just make u crave the real stuff in the long run and u will want more because fake sugars are more sweet... anyways thats what I am told lol

Not exactly. Although research does show that artificial sweeteners can cause us to mentally crave more goodies, the artificial sweeteners do not affect the blood sugar like regular sugar does. When we have blood sugar spikes from eating sugar and starches we get a physiological "need" for more sugar and starches, not just a mental "want".

I am insulin resistant and am prone to the affects of sugar and starches as are many of us. I wouldn't recommend too much of either (sugar or sugar-free). They don't have much nutritional value and are empty calories alone or within the products. But when I do crave something sweet I choose something that will have less of an effect on my blood sugar.

Hi

You could possibly use the natural sweetener Stevia to sweeten up yougurt and add some fresh berries, blend it up in a blender or not... Stevia has practically no calories and i don't think it triggers any sugar cravings but i would have to research it. It never has for me anyway....:)

I ahve a family who enjoys a desert once a week and have found some very good recipes that you can make with splenda. Gives me a treat on Sundays and as long as we keep it to one day a week we all win!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
