Banded 3/26/09 in KY

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, My name is Sue and Im from kentucky. Im a wife, mother, and Grammy. I was banded on March 26th and so far all is good but a little hungry . I wont be able to have a fill for about 3 weeks yet so Im just doing my best to make it threw the munchies. This forum looks like a good place to start for help and support since I live so far away from where the support groups meet from the hospital I used.

Welcome to bandster hell. The time between surgery and your first fill can be very frustrating. You don't have any restriction and as you heal, you feel more and more hunger. Stick it out! Make wise choices. I was made because I wasn't losing during that time, but I ate lean meals of Protein and vegetables and made sure I got at least 60 grams of protein each day. The first fill won't take you to your "sweet spot" but it's a start.

Thanks Cathy for the encouragement. Im hoping once I am able to eat solid foods again that may stick with me longer than the mushy foods. Please say its so. LOL But I have managed to keep that munchie bug away by taking a bite of something, usually applesauce.

Hi Sue...Welcome to LBT

I was alson banded 3/26/09 in Houston....I don't know what your post-op meal plan is like....Friday I get to start reintroducing solids into my eating. I think I have eaten more fish in the last 2wks then I have in my entire life!!!

Other then some lingering tenderness around my port I am feeling great....finally starting to get my butt moving some in the exercise realm. I'm planning to go back to a South Beach diet lifestyle (I've had great results with that in the past) and hoping that with that and regular exercise I'm gonna see the kinda of results that we all dream about at night...lol

Best of luck to you, I'm hear if you need someone to talk to on your journey.

Hi Momma, I too have eaten so much fish in the past two weeks I think I may have some gills growing. LOL Its a good thing I really like fish. I get to bring back my reg. foods on the 23rd. Im a diabetic so I will still be on the low carb diet, which isn't bad and I'm use to it. Being Diabetic is what made me decide to get this done. Im so sick of taking pills and I was on my way to the injections. I had to do something now. I have felt so good since having been banded. My energy level is threw the roof and like you the only soreness I have is tenderness around my port. Thank you for being here for me. If you ever need to talk too, my ears and shoulders are still big. LOL

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
