Has anyone used Nicotine/Cotinine cleanses just prior to lap band surgery?...if so di

Recommended Posts

If so did it work?

im going on 5/7 for surgery and have my preop on 4/28 i start my diet on 4/20 i just quit smoking and am worried about passing my test...panic'd actually.

Smoking has been the hardest thing to do, i do enjoy it.

but i want to quit and stay that way . as well as be healthy all away around . i thought it would be easier given i was told 8 weeks to quit prior.

so now im desperate and have come across many kits to help cleanse nic/cot from blood.urine,saliva.

do they work and can i pass being i have 3 weeks to my schedulrd surgery??? and 11 days to my pre op?

That's a new one on me! Never heard of anyone told that having quit smoking prior to surgery could still keep them from having surgery. What kind of a test are you going to have? My internist says that all the cleanses and such on the market only cleanse one thing ... wallets. If it doesn't have FDA approval for its claims, I'd pass it by personally. I've never smoked but I have friends who have and who have quit and everyone of them was told the positive changes start with the first cigarette they don't smoke and continue. Personally, rather than be in a panic, I'd check with my doctor since based on what you have told us that's who told you to quit and who said they would run a test. Get details!!

My doc told me I can't even come in for a consult until I quit smoking for 2 months. It really upset me because I couldn't even start my process with getting the lap band. The only positive with the docs rule is that I actually have to quit smoking or I WON'T get to have surgery. If I fail that blood test then, I have to wait another 2 months. I don't want to fail myself, so I quit COLD turkey April 6th and haven't had one since then. I will gladly throw 10 years of smoking out the window so I can get my surgery. But I also do know how hard it has been. I think I have gained weight from quitting. LOL Good thing I quit to have WLS....LOL Good luck with quitting. I know how hard it has been.... I just pray everyday I don't give in to my urges... Jennifer

I understand what you are going thru. I have smoke for 34 years and it is hard to just quit. But I called on the help of my doctor which she gave me Wellbutrin

and it has help alot. I have not smoked in 10 weeks. With that said I looked up everything I could on the computer and the trace of nicotine is gone within 48 hours. I'm not sure how they test or what they are testing for but for myself I did not what to take a chance. I was told also I could not smoke within 2 months of surgery. I go 4/21 for my pre op. But I think you you will be okay. Good Luck

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
